Nap Time, Bed Time, What time???
I have heard of some newborns that get their days and nights mixed up and they are up all night long, well I am having a little bit of the the same problem but not with my baby....Bennett has gotten into such a weird sleeping schedule that we don't know what to do. Bennett has always been a really good sleeper, good long naps, and sleeps well at night. But a couple of months ago he started to take long naps and then he wouldn't be ready for bed until 9:30 at night, which is way too late. So I decided to try and take away his nap in hopes that he would go to bed earlier....well that has sort of back fired! Now, Bennett gets so tired in the late afternoon that the first chance he has to fall asleep somewhere he will. Sometimes as early as 3:30 in the afternoon and he will sleep for the night. BUT only to have him wake up at 5:00 am. How unacceptable is that? Now he can't get out of the habit of waking up that early and then he is so dead tired by 5 pm that he falls asleep and starts the process all over. I am at such a loss of what to do. What is worse, 9:30 bedtime or 5:00 am wake ups? I hope this is just a phase like all of the other crazy habits he has had in the past, but Wade and I are dead tired between Grayson and his crazy nights lately and a 3 year old that wants to play games it seems in the middle of the night. Not fun.

Yikes those times are harsh. If it's any concelation Grant still wakes up at about 5-6. :( I have had similar problems with Grant's napping lately. I honestly just had to devise a plan with times that worked for me and him (with much help from veteran moms) and stick with it! It was NOT pretty for the first few days, but he's doing great now. Also, Grant was pretty messed up for a few weeks after we traveled away from home...maybe?
ps. I'm really not one to give any advise, but ths has just been my experience. :)
I got nothin sister. My almost 9 month old STILL isn't sleeping through the night...so I don't even remember what it is like to get more than 4 hours of sleep at one time. Cheers and good luck with that. :)
Oh, I say 5 am is way worse. My only suggestion is to try and get him to take an early nap - like around lunch, then wake him up after an hour and a half. If he is really hard to wake up - like most kids I try and do small things to stimulate him. Put him down in the family room so it's not the greatest nap, give him juice (it's cold and has sugar to boost his energy), put on his favorite show (to grab his attention) and just keep rubbing his back or shifting him in your lap to stimulate him to wake up. Then if that works try and get him down at 8. I find that 8 is a great bedtime. That's all I got - I hope it works. Keep me posted!!
I think him falling asleep at 10:55 PM last night and then waking up at 5:00 AM was by far the worst!
Wade
See, i gave him a nap yesterday thinking it would help, but it didn't. He is crazy.
That is so tough... we are kind of in the transitioning phase too. If Avaree naps she is NOT ready for bed but if she doesn't nap she is cranky and exhausted and she has fallen asleep for the night after a late afternoon nap. Fortunately, she isn't waking up at 5:00. That would kill me. I'm not good at early mornings. I would try to keep him up so that he will sleep more at night??
My kids both did that...naps ruined their bedtime and no naps was awful... it lasts a few months but then it gets better. I would always skip the nap and try to keep them awake as they get tired in the late afternoon, then to bed early..7ish. It'll get easier, good luck.
Put him in the pool so that if he falls asleep, he will hit the water. He will stay awake if it keeps him from drowning. That is my suggestion, because as you know... sleep is something that I care about big time! Love ya!
